Trash Talk: How We Spruced Up Downtown Before the Big Rock Tournament

On June 3, just days before downtown Morehead City fills with sportfishing enthusiasts, boat crews, and big fish energy, a crew of a different kind hit the streets armed with trash bags, gloves, and the shared mission of making downtown a clean and beautiful place to be.
Downtown Morehead City, Inc. teamed up with Carteret County’s Litter Free Land and Sea to host a community clean-up that brought out some real MVPs: volunteers from the Adopt-a-Block program, folks from the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium, and even members of the DMC Board (yep, they don’t just sit in meetings!).

The mission was to give our sidewalks, curbs, and storm drains a good spring cleaning before the crowds roll in for the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament at Big Rock Landing. Because nothing says “Welcome to the Coast!” like clean streets and a sparkling waterfront.
Litter Free Land and Sea is all about keeping Carteret County looking good by connecting volunteers, local businesses, and clean-up crews to tackle trash and tidy up public spaces. They're the unsung clean-up champs, keeping tidy roads and happy turtles.
And if you haven’t heard, Downtown Morehead City, Inc. is now running the Adopt-a-Block program downtown. We are proud to help business owners and neighborhood heroes “adopt” a block and keep it looking lovely all year long. It’s like being a plant parent… but for a piece of sidewalk.

Want to join the fun? Check out how to get involved here: https://www.downtownmoreheadcity.com/adopt-a-block
You pick a block, we hand you some gear, and together we keep downtown walkable, welcoming, and worry-free. (Bonus: it’s oddly satisfying.)
Thanks again to everyone who came out to clean up with us. Y’all make downtown Morehead City shine... Literally.
